Turkey is a country with nearly 72 million inhabitants. It is situated on the Anatolian peninsula, between the Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea. Central and southeastern Turkey has a desert-like landscape with salt lakes. On the coasts beaches and mountains. Western much overgrown hillside landscape and mountains. The North Sea coast has a warm climate. The capital Ankara has 3 ½ million people and sights as the Mausoleum of Atatürk, the Arslanhane mosque and the old town core Hisar. Other major cities are Bursa, Adana, Gaziantep, Konya, Antalya, Kayseri and the port cities Izmir, Mersin and Istanbul. At the World Heritage list of UNESCO are the historic sites of Istanbul, the Göreme National Park and the rocks of Cappadocia, the City of Safranbolu and the great mosque of Divrigi. Furthermore, the archaeological sites of Troy, Hierapolis and Pamukkale, the ancient city of Xanthos-Letoon, religious complex Nemrut Dagi and the old city Hattusha.
